RESEARCH

Sutton Camp, historically a traditional thatched hunting camp, built from stones collected from the Pongola River, lies close to the 15 hectare Sutton Dam in the southern part of Zuka Private Game Reserve and we successfully repurposed to serve as one of the ecological hubs within the reserve.

Sutton Camp is home to researchers and volunteers assisting the Munywana Conservancy Research teams with monitoring, research, conservation and ecological projects. The birth of the Getty Asterism in 2021 ushers in an exciting new era of research possibilities.

GETTY ASTERISM

The Getty Asterism

draws inspiration from the Phinda and Zuka success stories that have collectively seen over nearly 30,000 hectares of land transitioned from a downward spiral of progressive degradation to a regenerative journey that is seeing the system starting to flourish.

The Getty Asterism

is a geographical location for research in ecology, geology and marine biology, providing infrastructure, work space, funding and support to carry out free range, unconstrained thinking and research.

The Getty Asterism

is young scientists, with their brilliant and unconventional minds, who may not yet be established in the scientific world, who have a hub to pioneer and expose their new ideas, capture data and carry out research.

The Getty Asterism

has initiated its life with a REGENERATION LABORATORY providing a base for brilliant System Ecologists to pioneer their new transformative restoration innovations.

The Getty Asterism

vision is to realise the potential of Zuka and Phinda as a platform for leadership dialogues that will bring together tomorrows leaders, to shape and catalyse new sustainable rural development trajectories in South Africa and elsewhere.

The Getty Asterism

provides opportunity and supports visionary storytelling demonstrating the power of nature to heal itself and humanity.
