Tara Getty, grandson of J.P., appears to have inherited little of his family’s eccentric legacy. The 39-year-old may be as press-shy as some of his forebears, but he’s managed to carve out a life for himself that is, relatively speaking, downright normal. He and his wife, Jessica, have long made their home in Cape Town, South Africa, where Tara and his brother Mark are majority shareholders in Conservation Corporation Africa, that continent’s leading exponent of ecotourism. CC Africa, as it’s known, operates more than 40 safari lodges and camps in six African nations, plowing the proceeds back into the various communities it inhabits.
Life on a South African Game Reserve - The Standard

Standing seven metres from a male lion who has just stopped charging at you is pretty memorable. But bizarre as it may sound, I had set out hoping to experience exactly that on a morning walk at Zuka, the 15,000-acre expanse of varied bushveld where I live with my husband Tara and our three children. I was with Sheldon, the ranger, and Sipho, our tracker. The three of us intentionally approached a sleeping pride of lions on foot (though admittedly, being charged by the pride male was not part of our plan); there are two ways of viewing these animals when walking – to go in quietly, unseen, observe and retreat, or let them know you are there and be warned off. We had chosen to approach the pride unobtrusively but part and parcel of walking in the bush is to witness nature first-hand, and the male behaved just as he should. Instinctively, he asserted himself and communicated in a ground-shaking way that we had come too close.
De Beers Getty Cricket Match - Tatler
July 2011
A glamorous crowd headed to the Wormsley estate in Buckinghamshire for the annual De Beers-Getty cricket match, held to raise money for Tara Getty’s Africa Foundation. Power players Wendi Murdoch, Nicky Oppenheimer and Matthew Freud shared a table at lunch; at another, Jason Donovan hung with Andrew Ridgeley. Ben Elliot and Jamie Theakston played strongly for the winning Getty team, helped by fulsome support from Ade on the sidelines. Prospective players- including children- were roped into batting lessons, with Marlowe and Theo Turner and young Johnny Gallagher prepped for Getty’s teams of the future.
